The Philip Morris International (PMI) brand announced some time ago that it will launch a new IQOS ILUMA heater. Devices of this brand are very popular not only among active smokers, but also among people who occasionally want to taste tobacco. What does the new IQOS series offer?
How does the new IQOS model ILUMA work?
IQOS ILUMA is the first heater to use induction heating technology. Its design differs from previous versions by the lack of an element responsible for heating the stick (i.e. the so-called mandrel).
The IQOS heater model called ILUMA is easy to use and does not require cleaning. The device was launched in 2021 in Japan. Instead of HEETS sticks, dedicated TEREA heating sticks - containing tobacco - are used only and exclusively for use with the inductively heated IQOS ILUMA e-cigarette.

The IQOS ILUMA series is to be available in two variants - standard and PRIME. Both devices look stylish and elegant. They are slim, have a compatible charging case with a designer look. Like the previous models of this brand, they fit perfectly in the hand, look beautiful and are interesting gift suggestions for smokers. Both devices are based on induction heating technology. They differ in design and type of case.
IQOS uses the Smartcore technology, which heats the tobacco from the inside of the Terea Smartcore Stick. After sticking it into the heating chamber of the device, it will automatically detect its presence and start the heating process.
The devices do not generate smoke, and the smoker does not draw harmful tar substances into his body. Studies have shown that IQOS Iluma will offer a more pleasant experience compared to previous generations of IQOS series heating devices.
Differences between IQOS heater models
IQOS Iluma Prime is not only a new design of the heater itself, but, like IQOS 3 DUOS, it allows you to heat up to two sticks "in a row". You can burn up to 20 sticks on one charge of the case.
The appropriate number of indicator lights informs the user about the charge status of the heater's battery. IQOS ILUMA PRIME heats the stick to 350 degrees Celsius, one session lasts about five minutes. The average charging time of the case using a cable with a USB type C port is about two hours.
The cover of the IQOS ILUMA PRIME charger is made of fabric and can be easily replaced with a different color. In IQOS ILUMA, the charger has a standard shape - to get to the device, you need to open it in the same way as IQOS 3.0. In both cases, you do not have to worry about cleaning the device, thanks to which there are no unpleasant odors. In addition, thanks to the wireless Bluetooth connection, you can pair the device with your smartphone.
TEREA sticks for the new IQOS ILUMA heater
TEREA sticks differ from the standard HEETS used in previous IQOS models. After taking the TEREA stick out of the packaging, you can see the differences at first glance. In the new version, you can't see the tobacco from the bottom, as was the case with HEETS. There is a special security element at the bottom. Tobacco (and aromas in the case of flavored versions) is contained in a special capsule with a metal blade inside.
After placing the stick in the heater chamber, a magnetic field is generated, and then heat, which generates the blade. The process of evaporation of tobacco leaves takes place, which creates water vapor, which goes to the smoking body. The TEREA stick is completely tight, it does not leave tobacco residues in the place of heating. In the case of HEETS, you can count on many different flavors, TEREA is also to be available in flavored variants.
According to available information, IQOS ILUMA is to be available in four new, universal colors: Jade Green, Gold Khaki, Obsidian Black and Bronze Taupe.
The price is currently unknown. It is assumed that it will be higher than the previous model. It is worth remembering that the sticks are also constructed differently, so you will not be able to stick compatible products of other brands into IQOS ILUMA. So which model is worth choosing?
ILUMA is supposed to be a slightly cheaper solution, so if you are starting your smoking adventure or want to change traditional cigarettes for a better alternative, choose the basic model. The PRIME version will certainly meet the expectations of the most demanding users who also care about the design of the entire device.
